This is my first attempt at a blog. Very generic statement, I know. But I’m not really sure what I’m doing yet. I know that my main goal is to document the changes I’m trying to implement in my life for 2016. Things like being happier with myself, being more motivated and energized to complete daily tasks, to achieve the goals that I set, and to nurture the writer I’ve always wanted to be.

Don’t get my wrong, I’m a pretty happy person in general. I’m exceedingly happily married (sorry, I really do have the best husband), I’m very content with my job, and I enjoy my daily activities. I love cooking and enjoy trying new recipes and enhancing those old staples. I love working out – actually completed my first marathon this past November. I could go on about all the things that I enjoy about my life but I don’t want to be bratty boring right off the bat. However, I do struggle with some slight anxiety and depression.

Which leads to the goal of of becoming more motivated and energized. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been getting ready for bed and making that mental itinerary in my mind: “Going to wake up at 5:15am and run 5 miles! Yeah! Then going to make a good breakfast! Yeah! And I’ll clean the windows and vacuum the stairs! Double Yeah!!” Then morning rolls around and I snooze the alarm and sleep in till 8 and sit on the couch and binge watch Attack on Titan while eating ice cream (this is a real life example from about two weeks ago!). Followed by feelings of complete inadequacy and failure come sunset when I’ve not done a single one of my mental goals. Ugh!

So I’m making the commitment to myself that 2016 will be the year of changes. My plan is to incorporate two new behaviors into my life each month (which includes making or breaking habits), to complete one big house project each month, to finish three craft projects a month, and to write in this blog a minimum of four times a week. I don’t know quite yet what each month will be, but I know what my plan is for January:

  • behavior #1: wake up early – 5:15am (will adjust according to need)
  • behavior #2: write anywhere, anything for an hour
  • house project: insulate the attic – a winter must!!!!
  • craft project #1: complete scrapbook for Mom
  • craft project #2: paint a picture
  • craft project #3: melt down the old candles to make new ones

I’m very optimistic for what the year will bring. Here are some other items that I want to tackle:

  • get in more workouts – I’m starting to notice cellulite in places I do NOT want cellulite
  • run another marathon
  • save $5,000
  • travel to a new country
  • fix the koi fish pond
  • be kinder to myself
  • complete the 31 Day Burpee Challenge
  • eat healthier
  • knit a sweater

Just some examples.
